June 22nd & June 29th: Fighting an Ongoing Threat: Aquatic Invasive Species
Join our ranger at the beach to learn about aquatic invasive species biology, watercraft inspections, and decontaminations. The group will visit the inspection and decontamination stations located near the beach.
July 6th & July 27th: Flora and Fauna of Northwest Montana
This walk will start at the beach and end at Bakke Nature Reserve, about 1.5 miles. Search for native plants and animals along the river and in parks along the way. There is an option to return to the beach with the ranger for a longer outing. Binoculars are recommended.
July 13th & August 3rd: Whitefish History
Learn about the Kootenai Tribe, who inhabited this area for the last 10,000 years. Visit Roundhouse Landing and Depot Park to learn about Whitefish’s early years as a railroad town. The return walk to the beach will focus on the history of skiing on “Big Mountain”.
July 20th & August 10th: Whitefish Lake and River Ecology
Discover the complexities of Whitefish Lake ecology and geologic history. Learn about efforts to protect and monitor water quality to preserve Whitefish’s drinking water and recreational assets.
