Candidates Can Begin Filing for Municipal Elections on April 22, 2021

Whitefish residents who are interested in becoming more involved with their local government are encouraged to consider running for elected office. In November, a mail ballot election is scheduled. Positions for elected office include three (3) city councilors for a four-year term, and one (1) municipal court judge for a four-year term. All newly elected officials will take office January 2022. 

Qualified electors interested in filing can do so April 22, 2021, through June 21, 2021, by completing a Declaration of Nomination and Oath of Candidacy form and a C1A form at the Flathead County Election Office (40 11th Street Wes, Suite 230, Kalispell), or visit their website, Pursuant to the Montana Constitution and state law, to be considered a qualified elector an individual must be a resident of Whitefish and registered to vote. 

Those seeking a Council seat must be a resident of Whitefish for at least 60 days preceding the election. Municipal court judge pursuant to Section 3-6-202 M.C.A, must have the same qualifications as a judge of a district court, as set forth in Article VII, section 9, of the Montana constitution, except that a municipal court judge need only be admitted to the practice of law in Montana for at least 3 years prior to the date of appointment or election.
